The all knowing Pug
As a pround Pug mother, I decided to devote a whole post to Penny's tricks.
Here's what she knows:
Sit
Down
Stay
Shake
Up
We're working on:
Speak
Play dead
Roll over
Speak is so freaking hard. I am trying to teach it to her before Drew gets back. I kind of got her to do it last night. But, I can't figure out why she can't sit and bark. She's like jumping and barking. And I feel like I am rewarding her for being annoying.

I've never understood the practical value of having a dog that will bark on command...it's like training your dog to pee...it's going to do it anyway. Why bother?
Hi Susan. I said I would post, but apparently unless I have a blog of my own I have to post annonymously. All the more tempting to start a blog. Although the ramifications of that still make me a little nervous. I don't really have much of a reaction to this last post. "Shake" strikes me as the most unnecessary dog command. If I were Penny, the shake thing is the one I would resent the most.
Oh! It did post me with a name. Pretty snazzy.
Thanks Shirley. Actually, shake is my favorite trick she can do. But, I can see where you're coming from. The reason we want her to learn to speak on command is because when she needs to go out now, she just stands at the door. So, if we don't see her for a minute, sometimes she'll just go inside standing at the door. If we can teach her to speak, everytime she goes out we can make her bark. That way, eventually she'll do it on her own (or so we think). Otherwise, we really wouldn't bother with speak. :)
